I went to West Grand & Greg went to Hayden for high school. I was lucky enough to play against one of his sisters, Brette (which was always a good match up I’d say).
I noticed Greg to be a pretty handsome fella and soon starting talking to him…but it was clear Greg wanted nothing to do with girls and didn’t have time for that…so I kept being persistent.
One day, I told him to stop being scared of me and go on a date with me, well that didn’t happen until we were both in college. I was attending University of Wyoming in Laramie when he was at Colorado State University in Fort Collins.
Our first date was a hockey game in Fort Collins where CSU was playing UW. I remember Greg and I laughing at a man that looked like Harry off of Dumb & Dumber.
Since 2014, we’ve been on this wild roller coaster. Greg would take me on dates with what he had saved up from his 4H Grand Champion Steer Days & we would always have the best of times. My friends even loved him.
That Winter, Greg moved back to the ranch in Hayden to help his brother Chris and his father Kurt. 45 minute drives turned into 2 1/2 hours when Greg would decide to visit Laramie in a blizzard.
After meeting Brette’s husband, Chase, Greg was inspired to go to line school…so more distance it was. Mitchell, SD wasn’t ready for Greg and I was scared myself. 2 1/2 hours turned into 9 hours, but that didn’t stop either of us from visiting each other, even it was only for less than 24 hours.
I would often visit Fort Collins to visit Brette where we soon became best friends (it was nice because Chase was also far away at the time)
Once we both graduated, Greg accepted a job in Alaska and I accepted a job in South Dakota. (We both agree this was probably the funnest part in our relationship).
We were tested every day with the distance, but every time Greg would come and visit, it’s like we didn’t skip a beat. He would work 6-8 weeks on and have 2 weeks off. We would travel, go places, visit many wineries (especially when I moved to Oregon) and just see part of the country we would’ve never thought of visiting.
Our relationship soon became phone calls only since Greg hardly ever had service, but the experiences he had and lessons learned are something he’ll never forget. He came back a true mountain man each visit, full of dirt and a tangled beard!
While Greg was in Alaska, I was able to grow very close with his sister, Lauren and her new husband, Elliot in Oregon. Whenever Greg would come back down, we always made the trip to Roseburg to go on the river, drink delicious wine and laugh for hours.
They say distance makes the heart grow fonder and I couldn’t agree more. After almost 2 years of being apart, Greg got the call that he got the job at Mountain Parks Electric in Granby, CO…my hometown.
It was a true blessing and definitely a change because I never thought I would be back in the county at 22 years old.
We were now closer to my parents Jeff & Terese and Greg’s parents Kurt and Vonnie
After a calving season together and neither of us killing each other, we knew we would be fine for whatever was in store for the two of us.
It was truly Gods blessing to have us together again and we haven’t stopped smiling since.
A few months in and now we live closer to Brette and her husband Chase, two of the most incredible and kind people in our lives. They moved back from SD in May and it has been so nice having them so nearby, again.
On July 4, 2019, we were celebrating our favorite holiday in Craig, CO with some of our dearest friends at the Westberg Household. After watching the fireworks, Greg got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. For the first time in 23 years, I was speechless (which is very shocking). I said yes and have never felt more sure about something in my whole life.
God throws some crazy events at us at times and I wouldn’t want to go through them with anyone else. Greg is my rock and together we make a great team. We are so excited to share the celebration of our marriage with all of you on August 22, 2020 here in Colorado. We are so blessed and lucky to have each of you in our lives.
