We didn’t know it at first, but it was love at first sight. The only catch was that we were too young to know what love was quite yet. While our story started in kindergarten, and I’m sure provided some funny memories for those old enough to remember, as life went on, Alecand I continuously found ourselves falling closer and closer together with each year of our friendship and growing love.
It wasn’t always easy. There were fights on the playground, then fighting over who got to ride which horse, who had to get the gate, what was being cooked for branding or shipping, and my personal favorite – what they were going to name the new milk cow I brought home. Elementary school, middle school, high school, and all their adventures after – it was tough on us as individuals. But the first person we wanted to call whether it was good news or bad news regardless of our phase in life, was always each other. And most importantly, that phone call ALWAYS ended with – “love you, bye.”
Our most recent adventure was when their page turned for good. Katherine Mae came into our lives and stole our hearts while simultaneously sewing us together. The perfect family of three came together in an exciting twist- for those that know us, this is not surprising at all. The things that are thrown at us could be written in a novel, and someday should be. But the theme of that novel would be the steady relationship and love for each other we have had since kindergarten.
We look out for each other, protect each other, encourage, push, challenge, and accept each other. A long hug in the cow camp kitchen, a quick wink in passing while branding calves, a hand hold on the endless dirt road. That’s who we are and always will be.
