JOE + SARAH| DESTINATION ENGAGEMENTS
Destination engagements are a THING! Have you ever considered travelling to your photographer for pictures? Or maybe you want a different landscape that where you live doesn’t offer? Maybe you share a special memory with your fiance from a trip or place you’ve visited together. It is definitely something to consider when you start planning and investing in engagement pictures. Check out this Arkansas couple who travelled to Colorado for the most beautiful snowy engagement session in the foothills of Laporte, Colorado.
LOVE STORY
We are both from small towns in Arkansas. I’m from Westfork, AR and Joe is from Mansfield, AR. We recently moved to Texas where I am in OT school and he is working as a biological engineer. We both love hiking with our dog, kayaking, skiing, camping, hunting, and fishing – basically anything outdoors. We met Freshman year of college through mutual friends. When I met him, I told my mom that I found my future husband (sounds crazy I know) but hey, I was right. We have been together for 4 years. Joe and I go to Colorado to ski every January and we absolutely love it! January of 2020 we went on our annual trip and planned a morning hike with our Huskey, Nala. When we got to a pretty bridge we stopped to take pictures and when I went to take a picture of Joe and Nala he was on one knee with the ring out!! EEEK – we were alone and did not get any good pictures, so we decided that it would be fitting and BEAUTIFUL to get our engagements done in Colorado!
A NOTE FROM THE PHOTOGRAPHER
I met Sarah and Joe from a client referral, Sarah is in OT schooling with one of my 2020 brides Lizzy DeGrand from Fort Worth, Texas. Lizzy and her husband Seve visited Colorado back in December 2019 when Seve reached out to me about photographing a surprise engagement session after he proposed to Lizzy. Long story short, I traveled to Fort Worth THIS December to shoot Seve and Lizzy’s wedding when Lizzy told me she had someone who wanted to meet me! Her friend Sarah and her fiance Joe!
Joe and Sarah planned a trip to Colorado for their annual ski trip in Steamboat Springs, Colorado and before they headed back to Arkansas they wanted to stop and have their engagement photos shot by me. I was honored! We woke up that morning to about 6 inches of fresh snow, slick roads and no sight in end for the little snowstorm that blew through Colorado. Joe and Sarah were champs and still wanted to shoot despite the nasty weather. When we got to our location the snow fell perfectly for the whole session making for some truly magical photos! (and no fingers or toes were frozen off in the making of the session! Whew!) LOL
